Looking on the bright side

Today is Monday, much like any other Monday really when I meet up with one of my best friends for a knit/crochet and natter morning.  We take it in turns to visit each others house which gives us a chance to admire each others gardens, exchange gossip, drink coffee and generally have girl fun.  As we hadn't seen each other for about a month, we had lots to catch up on today.

Monday is also oil painting class day which is in the afternoon.  After a quick lunch, I decided to let the chooks out of their coop to have a wander in their run..  It has been raining and raining here and the ground is very sodden and slippery.  As I was returning to the house, I slipped in some mud and ended up on my bottom feeling rather sorry for myself as my jeans were not only soaked but covered in mud.  As I was sitting on the ground thinking that I was going to be late for my class, I began to think on the bright side.  Here is a list of things I came up with.

I wasn't hurt, a bit tender and bruised, but no broken bones or sprains.

My jeans and undies were the only items of clothing that were muddy and wet.
I had a fresh pair of jeans (and undies) to change into.  All they needed was an iron, the jeans that is.  I don't iron undies, life is too short.  :)

I had plenty of water to soak my jeans in.

I'm planning on washing tomorrow anyway.

While I was in the laundry putting my jeans in to soak, I remembered that the sheets I had put in to wash this morning from last weeks visitors, were ready to be put in the dryer.  No sun for drying clothes outside unfortunately.
The egg I had collected and was carrying in my left hand didn't break when I fell.

I thought it might be fun to blog about something that must have looked so funny when it happened.

I have an awesome camera to document where I actually fell.

When I was outside taking photos of my skid mark, I took the opportunity "to smell the roses" which actually means I looked at some of my winter flowers as there are no roses in bloom.

I photographed my flowers to share with you.
I thought about the wonderful fact that because we have had so much of rain, our dams are now at 60% capacity.  After more than 10 years of drought they did get down to 28% capacity which is quite scary.

How is that for for a list!  Now here are the photos.

Photo scavenger hunt - June

Here are my photos for June's hunt.  I've been scrambling the last few days to complete my list as June has been busy with the 21st and 18th birthday parties of my girls.  There are a few artistic interpretations of a couple on the list, but I think that is part of the fun of taking these photos.

1.  Something with my town's name on it.

2.  An elephant

My nephew drew this for me a couple of years ago in my sketchbook.

3.  A wheel trim.

Artistic license taken with this photo.  I could have used this for childhood memories too as I remember pushing this old wheel trim around when I was a little girl.  It has a piece of wire attached (you can see that at the top left of the photo) which means you can push it like a wheelbarrow.  I loved looking at the patterns it made in the very sandy ground where I grew up.

4.  Architectural detail.

A local boys private Catholic school.  This building is a new addition to the school and quite hideous in my opinion.

5.  Cheese

Brie and rice crackers.  The cheese was left over from Genevieve's birthday party.  Sometimes it's good to over cater.

6.  Night

Solar powered Chinese lanterns hanging around the garden room in the backyard.

7.  Tree branches

Winter branches of the Sycamore tree in the front yard.

8.  Cutlery

My cutlery drawer.  It would appear that it is my peg drawer too!

9.  A childhood memory.

 I can't remember where I was exactly when this photo was taken of me or how old I was but I do remember that little overcoat.  I loved the fur collar.  Look at all those freckles.  That's what the Australian sun did to my fair skin.

10.  A farm animal

I inherited my mothers weakness for shoes.  These shoes are my last gasp at youth.  :)  Heels kill me now.

This is a freebie handed out to train commuters each afternoon/evening.  Hubbie does the crossword and sudoku on the way home.

This photo was taken in the street of Miss G.'s school.  Our postboxes are ugly compared to the gorgeous ones I've seen in the U.K.



10.  Eyes

Yours truly.  Beautifully out of focus so you can't see the wrinkles, bags and dodgy mascara job.  :)



11.  Something heart shaped

A gift from the girls years ago for Mothers Day.

I like a challenge

One of the things I enjoy about blogging is the opportunities to learn something new, be inspired and occasionally be challenged.  I've seen the Photo Scavenger Hunt on a couple of blogs and when I saw that Louise was joining in, I thought I might have a crack at it too.

One of the things that appeals to me about this project is it will make me think, be more observent of my surroundings and perhaps force me to learn to use my little digital camera better so I can take nicer photos.
