Cinque Terre

Hello everyone, how are you.  Our travels continue and our next stop in Italy was the village of Corniglia on the Cinque Terre.  I have been looking forward to spending time in this part of Italy for a long time.  Our introduction to the area was with rain and a rather scary drive down a winding, narrow road.

I was very grateful to get to the village and Richard went off in search of our accommodation while I sat in the car to recover a little from the scary ride.  The village is lovely with narrow streets, lots of stone and gorgeous little plantings of in pots.  Here are some photos of the streets of Corniglia.

We made friends with these two fellas in our favourite little cafe/bar we discovered made the best cappuccinos.  They were so cheerful all the time, it was delightful.

During our stay in the area we visited the other villages of Monterosso, Manarola, Venazza and Riomaggiore.  Here are some photos taken of these villages.  I have taken so many photos so please forgive me for not naming each group of village photos separately.
We sat under these colouful umbrellas to have a cold drink.
Two elderly ladies having a chat in the afternoon.
We went for a walk on the Via Dell 'Amore, the Path of Love we people have placed padlocks as a sign of their love.  I had one engraved before we left Australia (I'm a little bit romantic at heart) and after we locked it, hubby threw the keys into the sea.
Our padlock.  :)
Here are some of the fabulous views we had as we walked along the track.
Two men fishing off the rock.
One of the things hubby and I marveled at is the way the steep hills of the Cinque Terre have been terraced and planted with either grapevines, olive trees, lemon trees or vegetables.  Every piece of land seems to have been cultivated and it was wonderful to see.

We enjoyed our time in the Cinque Terre immensely and hope to get back one day.

My next post will be from the St. Paul Vence area and Aix-en-Provence.

Bye for now,

Anne  xx

  3. Hey Anne, I don't fancy the drive into the village but it's well worth it for the scenery.....

Love all the colours, some in unexpected places....doors, umbrellas, flower boxes, coloured treadlies!!

You are such a romantic, fancy having your padlocked engraved before leaving home.......you are nothing if not one very prepared traveller, hehe....

Always nice to find a cafe where they make a good coffee....

I've just arrived home this afternoon. It's sunny but a little chillier here, but great to be home. Looking forward to the next post, travel safely,
