Hello everyone, how are you? We are in Florence at the moment and about to head to the countryside in Tuscany but first let me share a little about Venice. It is an amazing place and I'm so very glad we've had the privilege of visiting. It is certainly interesting getting around as the maps don't match up with the street signs. Lucky hubby has a good sense of direction and we only got lost a few times which lead to new discoveries. Here are some photos of some of our experiences.
The view from our hotel window. I stuck my head out the window to take this photo. The steps are a bridge over a canal. We could see Gondolas and often heard people being serenaded during their ride. |
Standing on the bridge not far from where I painted a scene of Venice. I'm still sick and look rather disgusting in this photo. :) |
The exact scene from my Venice painting. It was such a thrill to see it with my own eyes. |
We went on a Gondola ride which was wonderful. It is very peaceful on the water and we have great admiration for the skill of the Gondoliers as they navigate their way around other Gondolas, water taxis and boats delivering produce to restaurants. Here are some photos from our ride. Our Gondolier's name was Fabio and he was lovely.
We visited the Bell Tower and were rewarded with beautiful views of Venice.
This is just a little taste of all the wonderful things we saw in Venice. It was a wonderful experience on many different levels from observing how the Venetians go about their everyday lives to acknowledging that Venetian women have style.
My next installment will be from Florence. Until then, take care,
Anne xx
P.S. Hubby and I are both back in good health which is very, very nice!
