Hello

It's seems like months since I last posted on here and much has happened in the intervening time.  I've had another trip home to the farm in Western Australia and spent 2 1/2 weeks with Mum getting stuck into all manner of things that needed doing.  So it was a busy time but I managed to sneak in a few hours here and there of walking in the bush and enjoying those big wide skies.

My walk into the bush was for the specific purpose of looking for some of the little birds that live there.  Most are shy so the best thing to do is sit down and wait for the birds to get use to your presence and they come to you.  I was rewarded by seeing this Western Yellow robin.

My brother who is an avid nature lover and bush walker had never seen one of these robins so I was pleased it had made an appearance for me.  My brother also told me to look out for a Red Capped robin which I remember seeing as a child while we were waiting for the school bus.  I thought I was going to be out of luck but as I emerged onto the road from out of the bush, I saw a flit of red.

These photos were only possible because of the new camera we have which has a fabulous zoom lens.  Our other camera which I loved died but I now have the joy of taking closeups of like these.

This next little bird is the female of either the Western Yellow robin or the Red Capped robin.  She was very tame and was happy with me taking these photos.

They are a little dark as I was looking into the light but overall I'm happy.  I might just have to paint the one above.

I was also able to take closeups of birds I've shown on here before but will share them anyway.

Crested pigeon.

28 or Port Lincoln parrot.

I think this is a Long Billed corella.

Butcher bird.
Pink and grey galahs.

Noisy miner.

I have other photos from my trip which I'll share in another post.

  1. Oh they are great photos!
Birds are one thing I find terribly difficult to photograph - I don't have the patience for it!
I've never seen a Port Lincoln Parrot before - that blue under his chin is beautiful.
And how sweet are the little robins.
Wouldn't it be a dreary world without birds?

  2. Thank you for sharing your lovely photos, Anne - I've never seen any of those birds before and your close up shots are as good as any on a wildlife programme! I do love the one of the little female looking right into the camera xx

  4. How lovely to hear from you! I have been thinking about you and noticed you hadn't blogged for a while. Hope you are all well. I was thinking of you yesterday as I was in a shop which had all sorts of owl cards and owl ornaments, brooches... all sorts of owl related gifts! I always think of you when I see owly things, hehe.

It looks like your new camera is a good one, these pictures are super and it's nice to see some birds I've not seen before like the different robins.
