Birthday card

My nephew is turning 13 and last night our family helped him celebrate becoming a teenager.  We all had a wonderful time and the very raucous and loud Happy Birthday we sang to him was received with some embarrassment.  Isn't that what families do, embarrass each other?  :)  I wanted to illustrate a birthday card for him and found an image of one of his favourite characters which I worked in ink and watercolours.  He loved it which was just what I was hoping for.

We gave him a gift of money, but how do you make that special?   Well, you make one of these envelopes.  They are also great for personalising gift cards and vouchers too.

This isn't the one I made, as I forgot to take a photo.  I then wanted to attach the envelope inside the card so I got a large paperclip, threaded some rats tail cord through the button and tied it to the paperclip.  You can see it on the side of the card in the in the first photo.  I had so much fun putting this together for my nephew.

Have a great weekend everyone.

  1. Too cute! We all know how special that character is to teen-aged boys. Nicely done, Anne.

I have been wanting to tell you this for awhile. When I open your blog, the top part appears. I get to see down to almost the bottom of the dragonfly. I look at those dragonfly's wings every time I wait for the blog to load. The more I see them, the more I think what a wonderful job you did with the color. The iridescence shows just perfectly, which is quite a trick with watercolor!

Sorry to go on for so long, but I had to tell you what a great job you did!
