Some of you may know that Genevieve, also known as Miss G. is doing her VCE which is equivalent to A levels in the U.K. I believe. Anyone who has either done VCE or who has children who are in the throes of the VCE year will know the stress and grinding hours of study that go with the territory.
In a bid to shed a little light relief on such an intense time, the Year 12 class at Genevieve's school have a dress up as a Disney character each year just before exam time. They raise money for charity and have some fun at the same time.

Genevieve chose to be the Magic Carpet from Aladdin. She is very thin and figured she could pull it off and indeed she did. My fabric stash was duly raided, nothing too precious was used and this is what she came up with.
There are armholes just under the top tassels so early morning violin playing in orchestra practise and writing could be done. |
Her inspiration for the design came from here.

Genevieve used her new sewing machine (18th birthday present), for the first time with Charlotte helping solve some teething problems. Yay for big sisters. A fun day was had by all and I saw some other amazing costumes when I picked Genevieve up from school.
Ahh, the enthusiasm of youth, you've got to love it!

Wow - clever girl, looks great! Good idea too, to have a bit of stress relief at this point in time.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fab make - those girls did well :)
ReplyDeleteSometimes fancy dress for school is fun. My baby sister is a trainee teacher - she's gone today dressed as Snow White and they are doing a 9 mile sponsored walk!
Fantastic carpet and what a wonderful idea. Anything that doesn't refer to revision timetables has got to be a relief at exam time. Wish her good luck with her exams, for me.
ReplyDeleteWhat a good idea for a costume and original too! Good luck to her for the exams!
ReplyDeleteHa ha, what a great costume!
ReplyDeleteCertainly a different idea for a fancy dress and didn't it turn out well ..........
ReplyDeleteThe girls did a fab job with the sewing and what a fun idea to have a dress up day before exams.
Wishing Genevieve all the best for her exams.
Have a great weekend....

That's a really clever idea and so well made too. There should be more light relief for kids taking exams because it can very heavy to only concentrate on exams for such an extended period.
ReplyDeleteI love it!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant ! both the idea and the finished article. My two used to do " come as a character from a book " during Book week at Primary school.
ReplyDeleteI know what VCE is sa I watch " Neighbours " and " Home and Away " !!! Jess finished her A levels early summer. She's dyslexic & the stres made her hair fall out. She isn't going to Uni & will find her way in the world without anymore exam stress ! ( though to do the transatlantic crossing she's had to take caurses & qualifications )
Your lovely girl looks happy & the best of luck to her x
sorry about the spelling mistakes ... I'm not even Dyslexic !
ReplyDeleteO my - that's just so clever!
ReplyDeleteIt's a most amazing costume - what a clever girl!
