Stuck in a rut

This is how I feel today, stuck in one great big rut.

The same things that annoy me about myself are still annoying me.  I procrastinate, I still hate housework, I still feel like I have no space.  Of course I know all the things I should be doing, changing the way I think about things, being grateful for what I have, put on lively music, la, la, la.

In my fantasy world, the younger members of the family would offer to do the housework once in a while.  Not have to be reminded to clean the bathroom like they agreed to, clean out the litter box when it's their turn without being reminded, unload the dishwasher in the morning when it's their turn, not in the late afternoon.  Wash the dishes from the night before when it was their turn so I can cook dinner in a clean kitchen.  Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

I have other fantasies too.  The younger members of the family know that my internal combustion system is in overdrive and I get very tired.  I'd love for one of them to say, "Can I get you a cup of tea?", "Can I put the bread on for you?", "Can I peel you a grape?".  I'm not asking for much really.  I would like them to see me as a person who tries very hard not to get cranky when I'm feeling irritable and moody, stifling hot one minute and freezing cold the next.  A person who needs time to be creative at least once a day and the space to do it in.  Not just physical space but mental space too.  Wouldn't be nice for someone to say, "How are feeling today?"

O.K.  rant over.  Hopefully cheerful and normal service will resume  after I've decided what to have for dinner?

  2. Me too. Me too. I always say I don't want a husband, I want a maid. It sure is nice to come out out to only one or two glasses on the sink instead of the whole cupboardful. Sighing with you. Cherrie

  3. If by younger member you mean teenagers?? then I can understand. Whilst mine are great at doing stuff - they have to be asked - rarely is it done just because they've realised it does need doing!

Hope you decided on something nice for dinner. Whilst its still breakfast time here, I've already given it some thought and we are having a warming curry :)

  4. Hey Anne, hope you are feeling cheerier now that's it out in the open........

Don't we all feel that way at times?
Completely understand where you are coming from............

Time for action or inaction, maybe you need to let their laundry pile up. Perhaps, forget those little things they like you to get when doing the shopping, you know what I mean, hehe......Let them know it's a two way street.....helping each other out.

I think we sometimes overdo the 'great mum' thing and make it a little too comfortable for the younger generation. We all know they're not bad kids, but it doesn't hurt to remind them to consider someone else for a change.

All the best and I hope tomorrow finds you out of your rut ........

  5. Ohhhh I hear you! My children do nothing in this house. Well my son does nothing and my daughters will help if there is some sort of bribe on offer. I would love them to help just because they want to help me. I sometimes think that they just don't realise that there's one of me and three of them and I need some help once in a while. Perhaps they're just normal kids who would prefer to be plugged into their music and computers.

Hope things look brighter after dinner...I'm currently tucking into crumpets for breakfast! x

  6. Oh, I hear you. Help is really sporadic here too. My best hope is that they know enough when they eventually leave home. Anything else will be extra. I know that sounds silver lining. Believe me, there are times when I stand in the kitchen and let them know that I want more! Awww!

    Hope today is easier.

  8. Haha!
Must be that time of year!
I've just had my sister on the phone for 2 1/2 hours complaining about her family.
It is the curse of Mums everywhere I suspect.
I remember our own Mum going off in the same way.
